The 40/40 CLUB, an all-American sports bar and lounge owned by hip hop mogul Jay Z and partner Juan Perez, opened its doors to the public on June 18, 2003. Created by the longtime friends, the club is 12,000 square feet of pure sports and entertainment in an opulent lounge setting that combines the lavish warmth of a New York City penthouse with the vivacity and glamour of courtside seats at a championship game.

From playing trumpet alongside Dizzy Gillespie to performing opposite Patrick Stewart in the Public Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest directed by George C. Wolfe - Kamar de los Reyes has crafted a musical and acting career as rich and complex as the syncopated rhythms of his Latin roots.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Kamar de los Reyes moved to Las Vegas at the age of two and had a childhood filled with music. Kamar's father, a Cuban drummer and percussionist, would see two of his three sons become professional musicians, one a world renowned drummer, the other a world renowned percussionist. Kamar, the youngest of the brood, began playing the trumpet at the age of four and although he played alongside trumpet greats like Harry James, Doc Severinsen, and Dizzy Gillespie, Kamar chose to go another route.

Putting trumpet aside while in high school, he rediscovered the arts as a singer and dancer in a pop/jazz ensemble called Harmony Express. During his senior year, a stage role as El Gallo in The Fantastiks marked his acting debut. Throughout this same period, he studied dance at Backstage Dance Studio and performed with small musical combos. During a trip to Los Angeles to visit his brother Daniel, who was playing percussion for the Cher music video We All Sleep Alone, Kamar landed a dancing role and subsequently went on to work with Kenny Ortega in the feature "Salsa"(1998)_ and the television series "Dirty Dancing"(1988)_. Later in 2001, Kamar would work again with Kenny Ortega in the VH-1 movie "The Way She Moves"(2001)_ only this time he would work as the lead actor.

In 1989, Kamar began to focus on his acting career. Kamar finally rose to critical attention in 1994 for his portrayal of gay Irish-Mexican boxer Pedro Quinn in the Public Theatre's production of Blade to the Heat. The Associated Press praised Kamar's mesmerizing performance and a New York Times review noted the most arresting figure [in the cast] is Mr. de los Reyes.

Kamar has steadily performed alongside a virtual who's who in television, movies, stage, and music for over two decades including projects such as "E.R.", "One Life to Live" (1968)_, "Pretty Little Liars" (2010)_, "Blue Bloods" (2010)_, and "The Mentalist" (2008)_. He would star in made for television movies "The Way She Moves"(2001)_, "Undefeated"(2003)_ directed by John Leguizamoand the feature film "Salt"(2010)_, starring Angelina Jolie. Kamar is also known as the voice and face of Raul Menendez in the most popular video game franchise in video game history "Call of Duty:Black Ops II" (2010)_. Kamar has been awarded the 2008 ALMA Award for Outstanding Performance in a Daytime Drama. The American Latino Media Arts Award is a distinction awarded to Latino performers who promote positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment field. Kamar was also chosen as one of PEOPLE Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People alongside Tom Cruise and Derek Jeter and PEOPLE En Espanol's 25 Sexiest Bachelors alongside Enrique Iglesias and Wilmer Valderrama.

As one of the chefs creators of the Nuevo Latino cooking movement, he excels in bringing creativity and efficiency to kitchens and providing festive, crowd-pleasing restaurants and event environments.

Currently Chef Alex Garcia is the Director of Culinary Operations for Barrio Foods. In addition to creating the culinary programs and overseeing the kitchens at a number of his properties throughout New York City including Calle Ocho, the Copacabana Supper Club, the VIP food service at the Copacabana Nightclub, Barrio, Havana Café, Open Book Café at the Brooklyn Public Library, Cabana Bar and Rooftop 760, Garcia also leads the Barrio Foods catering business, MAMBO catering. As founder of The Latin Spice Company he develops spice blends available for wholesale and retail purchase throughout New York City and the Caribbean. A native Cuban, Garcia's family taught him to appreciate the simplicity of ingredients and the power of conviviality centered around the table. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, Garcia worked alongside Chef Douglas Rodriguez at the inventive Yuca restaurant in Miami. Committed to expanding the reach of Nuevo Latino cuisine, the two chefs opened Patria in New York City in 1994. Rave reviews, including three stars from The New York Times, followed.

Garcia opened Erizo Latino, a 100 seat Latin seafood restaurant, in Soho in 1998. Again, the local and national media were impressed thus establishing Garcia as a culinary leader of Latin America cuisine in New York. Calle Ocho on the Upper West Side his third restaurant, this ever-busy, always popular location has been going strong for thirteen years. In the early 2000's, Garcia opened Babalu, a nod to the authenticity and vibrancy of his native Cuban cuisine. His latest venture Copacabana it's a glamorous venue in the middle of Time Square where his cuisine and music set the standards in New York City Latino scene.

Garcia's engaging and entertaining TV guest appearances ultimately landed him a two regular series, "Melting Pot" and "Nuestra Cocina" on the Food Network. The show helped to further raise awareness of the vibrancy of Latino cuisines and the variety that exists within this category.

Given his culinary and business success, Garcia is a sought after consultant who has worked with such companies as Carnival Cruise Lines, Disneyland, Fiery Foods, California Avocado Commission and Catena Wines, among others as well as a spokesperson for Goya and Rums of Puerto Rico.

To further his goal of raising the awareness of Latino cuisine, Garcia wrote In a Cuban Kitchen, which was published by Running Press. In a Cuban Kitchen will help to broaden your appreciation of the country and its unique blend of flavors and cooking techniques.

Garcia is committed to serving his community a dedication demonstrated in his work starting the organization La Nueva Vida Culinary Program, which teaches formerly incarcerated individuals interested in culinary and hospitality management the essential skills needed to succeed in the industry. Garcia sits on the board of Ayuda for the Arts as well as volunteers extensively for their annual fundraiser. This year he has begun working with the American Diabetes Association helping demonstrate healthy eating habits through cooking demonstrations at various health fairs across the city. Garcia's great charisma and passion for cooking fuel his endless list of accomplishments. Coca-Cola (often referred to simply as Coke) is a carbonated soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. Ruperto Vanderpool, a natural born comedian who's best known for his pantomiming humor and his endless variety of facial expressions. Born and raised in New York City the Bronx as son of Dominican parents, allowed Ruperto to be exposed to a diverse array of cultures that have provided him with many experiences, which today he incorporates into his stand up routine. What is DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma)?

Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG, is a Rare, Inoperable Brain Stem Tumor that predominantly affects children between the ages of 2 and 10. Only 200-300 cases are discovered in the United States each year and because there is no cure, it’s young victims only have an average of 3-18 months to live, after they’ve been diagnosed. There are NO SURVIVORS.

Anané Vega has the crowd in the palm of her hands, the same ones that introduce the next sequence of sonic fuel. Her crowd’s fiery dancing is reignited and a sea of raised hands begins to clap in ritualistic unison. Her music choices are unexpected, yet beautifully curated. The scene is oddly spiritual and miles away from where the night’s commander began her journey of self-discovery.

Anané Vega was born in Cape Verde’s capital city of Praia, located on the island of Santiago, to a Portuguese father and a Cape Verdean mother. Cape Verde, a former Portuguese colony, is located off the western African coast. During the time when Cape Verde was fighting for its independence against Portugal, her family was unexpectedly uprooted after they received death threats because of their Portuguese ties, thereby forcing Anané and her family to unwillingly vacate the island. After some time in Portugal, they relocated to the United States in search of expanded opportunities.

Self-identity wasn’t an easy discovery process for Anané growing up in a foreign country. Her mix of Portuguese and Cape Verdean heritage already had produced traumatic events in her past, and now she was struggling to understand how her racial diversity fit into her new country. Additionally, her parent’s traditional values were contrary to her expectations of what she should and would become. A woman, according to traditional values, was to mind the house, raise children and not consider herself equal to men. During a childhood trip to New York City, she noted to her mother at Rockefeller Center that she would one day very much like to live in such a vibrant city. Her mother cautioned her against such impulses and reminded her of a woman’s familial duties. Rebellion against these constraining expectations was becoming a necessity.

WARNING! Before he was a Heavy Hitter, a Party Rocker or an International Club King, DJ Camilo was just a Colombian kid from Queens named Juan Camilo Sanchez. Introduced to the art of turntables at age 12, Camilo debuted his first mixtape in the 1990’s called “CAMILO Vol. 1”. Encouraged by the positive response “CAMILO Vol. 1” received, Camilo began releasing monthly mixtapes and quickly made a name for himself in the NYC club scene. After earning himself a spot on Hot 97’s roster, Camilo began hosting his own Saturday night show called “Take It to the Streets,” which was so successful that it led to an additional show on Friday nights called “The Heavy Hitter Hour.” After spotting growing interest in the Latin music market, Camilo started to blend Latin urban music into the American radio market at HOT 97 - becoming one of the first influential DJs to merge both demographics live on air. Currently, Camilo hosts Hot97's daily top programming block from 4PM to 7PM, which is the number one show in the U.S. radio market in that timeframe. John Benitez was born in South Bronx, New York city, back in 1959. His family lived in an apartment on Burnside Avenue in the Bronx, and his sister Debbie was the one who gave him his nickname - Jellybean. Already as a child he used to entertain his family and friends by playing them different records on the turntable. He started his DJ career in 1975 in a club in the Bronx, called Charlie's. But he really wanted to go further... he wanted to work in the famous Manhattan clubs. He got a gig at a club called Experiment 4 and by getting the right contacts he came to play at the trendy Xenon. This was really a break-through for his career. During 1978 to 1981 all the hottest clubs, like Electric Circus and the legendary Studio 54, all wanted to hire Jellybean to play in their club.

NJPAC started in 1986 as just a grand plan, a belief voiced by then-Governor Thomas H. Kean that New Jersey deserved its own world-class performing arts center. Ultimately it was decided there was no better place for a Jersey arts center to take root than in Downtown Newark; a building that would not only host the world’s greatest performers, but also act as the catalyst for revitalizing the state’s largest city.

After critical public sector support and an unprecedented wave of philanthropy from individuals, corporations and foundations, NJPAC broke ground in 1993 on the site of the former Military Park Hotel. Architect Barton Myers designed the building, with Newark’s industrial heritage as inspiration. A momentous opening celebration on October 18, 1997 included the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Tango X2, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Chita Rivera, Savion Glover and American Ballet Theatre. Anthony Mason

December 14, 1966 - February 28, 2015

Anthony George Douglas Mason is a retired American National Basketball Association player. He averaged 10.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in his 13-year NBA career. Mason, who played primarily the power forward position despite his relatively diminutive stature (he stood at 6' 7" (2.01 m)), compensated his lack of size by his impressive musculature, which made him one of the most feared defensive players in the league. In addition to his physical strength, he could rely on a very good court vision and was a precise and effective passer. He was also known for shaving logos and words into his hair.

Mason’s long and accomplished basketball career includes a five-year stint with the New York Knicks. He was made part of the All-Defensive Second Team, as well as the All-NBA Third Team during the 1996-1997 season. Additional The NBA’s sixth Man of the Year in 1995 also earned the chance to play in the 2001 All Star Game as part of the Miami Heat.

Mason has made prominent appearances off the court as well. In the TV series New York Undercover, Mason appeared in two different episodes, playing himself in one. He also plays a pickup player in the 1996 film Eddie, and himself in Woody Allen's Celebrity.

Moving forward, Pregones/PRTT champions a cultural legacy of broad impact through (1) creation and performance of original musical theater and plays rooted in Puerto Rican/Latino cultures, and (2) presentation of other artists who share our twin commitment to the arts and civic enrichment.


Pregones Theater was founded in 1979 when a group of actors led by Rosalba Rolón set out to create new theater works in the style of Caribbean and Latin American “colectivos” or performing ensembles. In the beginning, the group toured plays in Spanish to underserved communities throughout New York City, the Tri State area, and up the Eastern states to Philadelphia and Boston. Established soon after as a Bronx company, and now boasting 80 premieres in English and Spanish, 350 visiting artist presentations, and more than 500 touring credits, Pregones is widely acknowledged as a leader and innovator in the arts.

The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater was founded in 1967, following the highly successful run of the first English-language production of La carreta/The Ox Cart, the classic drama of Puerto Rican migration by René Marqués. The play starred two rising stars that went on to become legends of stage and film: Raul Julia and Miriam Colón. Seeing how live theater was beyond the reach of most working families in New York at the time, Ms. Colón also set out to take the play to the streets. Under her leadership, the PRTT soon emerged as a beacon of the bilingual theater movement in the U.S., launching countless professional careers and introducing dozens of important playwrights to the American theater.

Established in 1985, SEA (Society of the Educational Arts, Inc.), is the premiere Bilingual Arts-in-Education Organization and Latino Children’s Theatre in the United States. SEA has created and produced a combination of educational theatre productions and art workshops/programs specifically designed to examine, challenge and create possible solutions for current educational, social and community issues. Its internationally celebrated programs include school, outdoor, community and main stage performances, workshops and residencies, among others, reaching over 75,000 children and young adults every year. The organization, established by Dr. Manuel A. Morán, currently has offices in San Juan, New York, and Florida. In celebration of its 25th Anniversary in 2010, SEA opened a brand new state-of-the-art performance space at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
